Things you didn't know about the Nativity

We all know the story of baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, the three wise men, the shepherds and the angels. But did you know that there was more to the story?

For example- two of the angels were in a fight and weren't speaking to each other

They had their backs turned to each other the entire night.

One of the Shepherds was so excited, that his head fell off! No joke

And most interestingly, there was a monster named Grog there, tending to baby Jesus and scaring away all of the bad guys

This is how I found our Nativity set today. I can tell Apollo has had loads of fun playing with it.

Also, here is our Christmas card. I am little peeved that some of the cards I sent out came back in the mail, saying they didn't have postage, but I could see the sticker residue where the stamps came off. How frustrating. So if you get your card late, I blame the stamps.

It's coming together... at the speed of Molasses

So, you remember that post where I talked about how we were going to remodel our house all by ourselves and it would only take two weeks and we'd be done. It was hilarious, right? What was I thinking! This is going to take YEARS. Haha.

But it's coming along. I still haven't showered in three months (Don't worry- I take baths), because we haven't yet grouted the tile. Cameron put the vanity in yesterday, but we still need to put in the granite countertops and sinks. There are still no baseboards. Or cupboard fronts on the kitchen cabinets (they are primed and waiting for us to paint them). It's kind of driving me a little crazy.

Also, we're having a riot trying to downsize from a three story house with a full-sized basement to a 1000 square foot house. Thank goodness for the garage! Check out the video I took of Cameron. I told him he couldn't fit the piece of cement board above the eaves in the garage, and he had to prove me wrong in 3 minutes or less.

Our lovely garage

Cam proves me wrong

And, we do have a Christmas tree and lights on the outside of the house. We have our priorities around here. Working shower? That can wait, there are Christmas lights waiting to be hung! But seriously, I love having Christmas decorations up. They make winter in Seattle seem less murky and gray.

So far, the only mostly finished room belongs to baby Sunshine. Isn't she cute?

Her room still needs some work, but I have to give you guys a sneak peak- I just can't wait. Let me tell you, when I found out I was having a girl, I about peed my pants with excitement, thinking about how I was going to decorate her bedroom. And I think it turned out pretty well on my non-existent decorating budget.

I painted my old college furniture and bought fancy schmancy over-priced knobs from Anthroplogie to make her dresser.

My mom got Sunshine this amazing bedding for a baby shower gift. Thanks mom!

And Mema (Cameron's mom) Got her this gorgeous lamp from Stray dog designs. It's awesome.
I still want to paint the table the lamp is sitting on. I think I'll paint it white with a white and sherbert-orange checker pattern on the top.

Apollo's old changing table- a piece of furniture we inherited from Grandma Waale's old house, then painted and got new knobs for. Apparently, Cameron's step dad and aunt had their bottoms changed on this table too. It's seen multiple generations of poo. Cam made the shelf above the table with scrap wood.

An awesome microfiber rocker I got off of craigslist for a steal!

I spray painted the hideous chandeleir that once hung in our kitchen. It was brown and gross, but it looks pretty chic with a coat of high-gloss white spray-paint

And my favorite part- the mural that Aunt Beth painted for the baby. I showed her a picture of what I had in mind, and she made it look even better than I imagined. She's an awesome artist.

Aren't they cute?

Gingerbread Extravaganza

Yesterday, we had our first party at our new house. It was awesome!

And there was lots of yelling, tickling, and playing had by this adorable bunch of munchkins:

Anza, Emily, Apollo, Mojave, and Madelyn

Cameron and I stayed up until 4:00 a.m on Saturday making gingerbread and enjoyed alone-time while the kids were asleep. All of our houses looked different. There was the burnt one, the one that looked like a birdhouse because it was so thick and huge, the almost-perfect one, and the tiny store-bought one (we didn't feel like making more dough).

I cleaned the house and Cameron put a door on the bathroom (I know, how fancy, haha). I was excited to use my new magic bullet to make dips. It's my favorite appliance. I got it (still in the box) off of craigslist for $25. I am always so proud when I find a bargain. I'll blog more about it later, but I am a huge fan.

Our good friends the Johnsons, The Schmidts, and the Boundys came and showed off their awesome gingerbread decorating skills.

The Johnsons made "A Nightmare before Christmas"" themed house, complete with decapitated snowman.

The Schmidts were nice enough to let all of the kids decorate theirs. It speaks for itself.

The Boundys' was perfect- Cameron called it the O.C.D. House. I was jealous. Especially of the roof. They even made a chicken coup in the back, just like the one they have in their yard.

If I had to pick one to live in, I would choose ours. It had a teeter totter, a satellite dish, and solar panels. I let Cameron to most of the work because he's a perfectionist and I like things to look perfect, but I am not so good at executing things perfectly.

I will be giving a prize of a plate of homemade chocolate chip cookies to the creators of the house with the most votes. Which one is your favorite?

Bliss

Sleeping baby + warm chocolate chip cookies + Tall glass of milk = Pure Bliss.

If only moments like these (and the cookies) lasted longer than a few short minutes.
